I had the same question– how do you get what you need (credit) when you don’t have what you need (credit) to get it (credit)?

What I didn’t know was that I was getting a credit score by just renting, going to school, etc. Since I didn’t know, I wasn’t necessarily doing a good job building a good credit score. Now that I have taken my head out of the sand and learned about taking responsibility for my actions and learning the full consequences of those actions, I am doing much better. It’s kind of like a grade point average, though; it takes more As in the last semesters of school than in the early semesters to make a change (i.e. balance out that C in Business Statistics I shouldn’t have taken…).

Like I said, I have now started to learn about how to manage my credit instead of it managing me! I used to think I should get as many credit cards as I can and use them to the limit. Bad idea– first, because I didn’t have any emergeny fall back credit (still have a great CD collection from the ’90s though!); second, because I didn’t know my credit was affected by using more than half of my authorized amount; and third, because I didn’t have a very good mix of types of debt– heavy on the revolving, unsecured debt and light on the “pay off in this millenium”, secured type.

So my point is, credit is a deeper, more complex subject than most people know and it certainly affects more things than you know and more than it used to. That is not likely to change, so you might as well get yourself educated and play the game well.

I am learning by working with people that already know the rules and soaking in as much as I can from them. I’m talking about people that know how to start, run and explode a business. I am helping to organize a conference with 11 of these experts that is coming up the first weekend in April. Go to www.thecapitalfactor.com to get all of the info!

Do you still believe that having a blog for your business won’t make you any money? Do you still think it’s impossible to use a blog to sell a product? We’re always taught to use a blog to attract traffic and you’re supposed to use a website to “sell.” Well, leave it to “The Conversion Doctor” Eric Graham (and past speaker at The Capital Factor) to prove theory otherwise! Check out what he’s selling on his blog and more specifically, about how he’s selling it on his blog. Great going Eric!

And, that just goes to show that Blogs can definitely make money for your business. But, you have to package those messages or you’ll lose your readers. The offer needs to be extremely compelling, almost impossible to turn down. And, it has to be real.

Just ask Armand Morin who will be speaking at The Capital Factor in Denver Colorado on April 5th and 6th. Armand’s combined businesses make more than $15MM in annual sales from the web…and you can bet that Armand has cracked the code on using blogs to sell online too. You’ll hear all about it at The Capital Factor.

Congrats again Eric!

Brett Favre is retiring from the Green Bay Packers and from NFL Football it’s true. A sad day for football fans everywhere. And, it’s no bluff this time. Brett is really retiring.

He said he “could” physically continue to play and that he would be able to play if football only meant playing on Sundays, but it’s the practices during the week he has lost interest in. Sorry Brett, no Sunday quarterbacks allowed.

If you’re a serious business owner, you know how Brett must feel. Eventually, we all need to retire from the business we’re in. Sometimes we have the option like Brett where we can just say goodbye and be gone from the spotlight in the blink of an eye. But, most of the time, something else happens that forces us out of business; a divorce, death, lawsuits, health issues, age.

At The Capital Factor Spring Conference we have re-invited Mindy Smith to teach the audience how to value your business and plan for an exit strategy. There are very few people who know how to do this right. Checkout The Capital Factor coming April 5th and 6th, 2008 and I’ll leave this posting with a question:

“Do you think Brett Favre has REALLY retired or are we going to see the announcement in August that he’s pulled a Michael Jordan on us and is back in the game suddenly?” Cast your vote in the comments area!
